NYCC or Bust

Posted in blog | Tagged , | Leave a comment
Just a little note to pop in and say that I’m heading to NYCC on Friday. Aimo, my partner-in-crime, is currently headed stateside as I type this and will be joining me for a few days of fun and sightseeing. Although we’re not attending as guests/panelists, feel free to hit us up via social media – we’d love to have a little Sad Sausage Dogs impromptu hang out and we’ve got plenty of Fox & Willow swag to give away! 🙂 And, yes – we will probably be hitting up that Bioware thing on Saturday night, so we should be easy to find there, huzzah! Hope to see you there!… Read more

Building a Better Beast

Posted in blog | Tagged , | Leave a comment
About five years ago I had a really nasty run-in with a computer built by Dell, which led me to 1) Swear I would never buy another piece of crap from them again and 2) Decide to build my own computer from scratch. And by “build myself” I mean buy the parts and let my more savvy techhead coworkers put it together. It’s a win-win, really. I get to build to my specs, coworkers get the fun of putting together a fairly high end machine and off we go. Not that I can’t do most of this stuff myself – over the years I upgraded various parts like video cards, sound cards, hard drives and the like. But when it comes to CPUs and whatnot, I get a little more nervous so I’d much rather have someone who does it on a regular basis put it all together. On the… Read more

The New Normal

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | Leave a comment
I actually hate this phrase. I hear it all the time, usually dealing with chronic illness, and I have to admit it tends to be the last admission to myself when I realize that once again I’m afflicted with some sort of “we don’t really know how to fix this or test for it, but we can treat it. Maybe. Sorry” disease. Like everything else, a confirmed diagnosis is both good (yay, I know what I have!) and bad. (Boo! Everything hurts and nothing helps.) I guess you could call it a five stages of grief thing, as you desperately research everything you can about said issue, throwing yourself at doctors and home remedies in the off chance that maybe this particular herb will be the miracle you’re looking for. And then there’s anger/sadness/depression and all that…and eventually acceptance. The new normal, such as it is. But I’m not here… Read more

Dog Days

Posted in blog | Tagged , | 1 Comment
We hit the beach again this past weekend. The main reason was to pick my son up from summer camp, but we decided to make a family deal out of it and take Maggie along with us. Last year she had only been about 3 or 4 months old – and puppies at the beach tend to draw a lot of attention. (Which she loved, by the way – it got to the point where every time we went for a walk  she would drag us to the busiest part of the “downtown” so she could get all the petting she wanted. Quite the diva, miss Maggie.) Things were a little different this summer. For one thing she is a little older and larger, but more importantly, her attitude has changed. She’s definitely become much more skittish/wary when it comes to strangers. Not for lack of trying on our part… Read more

Of Mice and Men

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 1 Comment
I’ve been having trouble hearing lately. Actually, it’s been going on since about November – a nasty hissing and ringing that never seems to stop.  I had it pegged as the side effect of a medication. I’ve since stopped taking it, but the ringing hasn’t stopped. So I got my hearing checked on Friday – turns out my ears are perfect. The doc indicated the hearing issues are probably the result of TMJ inflammation (Translation: I’m grinding my jaw too much.) “Your hearing is better than mine, in fact. So good, you can hear mice whisper.” Ironic, really.  (I mentioned this on twitter, though I replaced whisper with fart, because I thought that was about the same and doubly amusing – though fate apparently had the last laugh about it all.) At any rate, fast forward to Friday evening when I went to pick up Maggie from doggy daycare. On the… Read more
