Awesome Con DC update

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , | 1 Comment
Just a quick note to mention that the panel at AwesomeCon is now official. 🙂 Here’s the scoop: April 21, 12 PM: Room 102A – Writing Fantasy: Novels and Comics In publishing today, fantasy is a crowded field that encompasses the supernatural and paranormal, high fantasy and more science fiction-ish elements such as time travel and alternate realities. Join novelists and comics writers to learn what both publishers and fans expect from writers today. Justic Jordan, Allison Pang, Diana Peterfreund, Meagan Spooner and Alma Katsu. There will be a signing after that (tho I’m not sure if it’s in the same room yet or if it will be somewhere else.) I won’t be selling any books, but I may give a few copies away. Should be a good time, so come on down and join us! In other news, I should have a few Carniepunk ARCs in my hands next… Read more

Shift Change

Things have been a bit more hectic around here than usual – aside from the usual settling back in after vacation last week, Lucy was sick over the weekend (followed by me, naturally). But it’s been complicated by the fact that I’ve taken a new position at work. It will take me a little while to figure out what I’m doing, but I’m rather excited about getting the chance to do something new. Today was a bit of a mess since I had to move cubes – having to cull several years of crap is both inspiring and depressing. I’m in the new cube now, but most of my stuff is still in boxes. Not sure I have the energy to put everything back up just yet. The basics are in place, though – so it’s just a question of getting used to working with a new team in a… Read more

Meringue Mountain

I spent most of the weekend baking cookies. My yearly baking of meringues takes a very long time to complete – and this year I did a triple batch, plus a single batch of standard chocolate chip cookies. Some of these are being sent out as gifts, but most will probably end up in my belly. Because, duh. They are awesome. Especially with ice cream.  I sorta suspect I have too many still, though – so I’ll be bringing in some to work to give out.  I’m oddly stingy about that, though – as much as I like it when people enjoy the fruits of my labor – after you spend about 6 hours baking the things, (and 70 minutes of that is stirring in the sugar, thanks),  I want to make sure they’re appreciated. Or something. (And meringues are an acquired taste, I think – too sweet for many,… Read more

Friday Updates & Sundry

First off, I want to give a shout out to the World’s Biggest Bookstore in Toronto (and specifically Jessica Strider) for setting me up with a very nice display! (And go here for the matching interview, which can also be read at the display.) And again, sorry for not blogging as much recently. Sorta taking this month as a bit of a break, but I’ll be back on the ball starting in January. By the way – I owe some contest winners their books – I should be getting all those out on Monday. Got a ton of stuff to mail out, just gotta put it all together. I was over at Word Whores yesterday talking about how you know when a story is “done.” (Ha ha – if only it  were that easy. Sometimes it really is a gut thing.) Fox & Willow was updated yesterday as well –… Read more

Word Whore ~ Fox & Willow Thursday

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , | 3 Comments
Okay – first off, the big announcement is that I’m officially allowed to talk about the Carniepunk anthology now. So yay! (And no, the picture here has NOTHING to do with me or the anthology, but it’s fabulous and very apropos. It’s  called Fire Within Me and was created by the massively talented AF-Studios, so go check out the gallery on DA.) The Publisher’s Marketplace listing: CARNIEPUNK, an anthology which combines the carnival setting and the world of urban fantasy, a place of deception, where monsters wait silently in the dark, featuring short stories by authors Rachel Caine, Jennifer Estep, Seanan McGuire, Rob Thurman, Delilah Dawson, Kelly Gay, Kevin Hearne, Mark Henry, Hillary Jacques, Jackie Kessler, Kelly Meding, Allison Pang, Nicole Peeler and Jaye Wells, to Adam Wilson at Pocket, for publication in August 2013, by Suzie Townsend at New Leaf Literary & Media. I’m super excited to be a… Read more
