Word-Whore Thursday

Posted in blog, word-whores | Leave a comment
I’m over at Word-Whores today, talking about champagne…and my complete inability to appreciate it. Also, a little bit about why it’s so important to keep you working relationships with your editor or agent on a professional level. (Until you grow close enough that you invite them to your house to make unicorn poop cookies, that is.)… Read more

Wednesday Shinies

Blatantly pirating this gif off of tumblr (idea as per Jeffe) as my nod to SOPA. (Courtesy of The Oatmeal) And I’m keeping my own Tumblr dark today as well.  I realize it’s a rather small act in the scheme of things. Preaching to the choir and all that, but as addicted as I am to all things internet? Staying off Tumblr today has been really, really hard. It’s a goofy, chaotic place – but it makes me laugh and allows me to connect with a different set of people and I enjoy it. I’d actually be very sad if it (and other sites like it) fell to the likes of a bullshit bill written by people who have all the technological understanding of a dead monkey. *ahem* That in mind, I received a lovely bit of Brystion/Abby art yesterday, by the massively talented Emma Vieceli. It’s a little smutty,… Read more

Following the Leader

Posted in blog, followers, metaphoric crap that is supposed to mean something deep but probably doesn't, social networking | 5 Comments
One of the things I’ve always found rather fascinating with social networking is how it seems to have moved from a simple format of interacting with people into a cyber-popularity contest. It’s all about how many followers you have…and the quality of who *you* are following. (Hmm. This person is following 40 people…but is being followed by 9000! They must be popular!) Quality, of course, being the operative term.  (And rather subjective, at that.) And there are so many choices, aren’t there? So many places to make connections that it often feels like a whirlpool of words and thoughts and opinions. Impossible to keep track of on a regular basis, never mind the people who continually change their user names or avatars or website titles. The other night, I got a new follower or two on my Tumblr. No big deal, and I didn’t think much of it. Less than… Read more

Adventures in Baking Unicorn Poop Cookies.

Posted in blog, silly, unicorn poop | 7 Comments
Such as they are. My friend Danielle came to visit me this weekend and seeing as it was so chilly out, we decided to take advantage of the crazy Unicorn Poop cookie recipe that was floating around the interwebs…And this is what we came up with. And apologies – I’m basically just going to upload a bunch of pictures here, because it’s  hard to really be poetic about the fact that we were making edible unicorn feces. <– Danielle mixing in the shortening. 😀 (These cookies are pretty much NOTHING but shortening and sugar. As one would expect, really.) <– A little assistance from ms Lucy. <– Taste the rainbow <– You’re supposed to roll the colored bits of dough into long snakes and then weave them all together. This was a lot harder than it sounds – they tended to break apart pretty easily. <- First batch out of… Read more

Ripening

Posted in blog, ideas, metaphoric crap that is supposed to mean something deep but probably doesn't, rambling | 1 Comment
The only problem with temporarily abandoning a project is that you can never really go home again. I’ve been trying to get back into a project I stopped working on in late 2009. It’s not something I had gotten very far into at the time – and it’s actually pretty well written. All fairly good points, but what’s interesting is that three books later, I can see how much this mostly unwritten story has changed over the years. How my writing has changed, compared to what it was. The overall story idea has stayed the same, but over two years of percolation has definitely expanded my initial concept. Which isn’t a bad thing at all. Maybe it’s a bit like ripening fruit. The story might have been fine as it was, but I’ve had a few years to work on my writing craft, as well as flesh out some plots… Read more
