Autumn Shoes

I know it’s Fall now. Not because of the weather, or the leaves changing or any of that stuff.

No, I know the seasons have changed because today was the day I gave up my sandals and put on Real Shoes. (aka Shoes One Must Wear With Socks)

Which saddens me greatly. For the most part I detest wearing shoes. My toes like to breathe, I guess. And all isn’t lost as I’m sure there will be a few more warm days to be had before winter sets in, but it seems almost cruel to my feet to tease them that way.

I did find it amusing that after months of wearing flat sandals, I actually had trouble walking in my real shoes today. There’s a little bit of a heel and I’m all over the place and out of balance. I’m sure there’s a metaphor there, but at the moment I don’t know if I have the energy to poke at myself or my life too deeply to find it, although the way my second book is going right now, I’d say that’s a pretty good comparison.

The last several weeks have been a bit hellish as far as my schedule goes and the writing has definitely suffered for it, both in quality and quantity. Part of it is because I’m getting closer to the end and I tend to slow down anyway. Some sort of weird paradox about being so close and yet not quite there, I guess. On the other hand, this book is way more complex than BoD – there is a *lot* going on, and even though I’m at 85k, I’m beginning to think I’ll need a bit more than 15k to wrap it all up, but I suppose I’ll know when I get there.

This entry was posted in metaphoric crap that is supposed to mean something deep but probably doesn't, writing. Bookmark the permalink.
