A Duet With Darkness ebook Out Today

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , , | Leave a comment
My short story A Duet with Darkness is officially out as an e-short today. 🙂 Having just quit Julliard, disillusioned fiddler Melanie St. James finds herself as part of a group of traveling musicians en route to an OtherFolk carnival. Eager to break the chains of a lifetime of conformity, Melanie throws caution to the wind and enters a reckless bargain, plying her musical skills for the chance to win a violin that can open Doors to the CrossRoads. But the competition turns out to be far more than she expected. When the carnival barker makes her an offer she can’t refuse, Melanie is forced to play for the Devil or risk trading her soul for the one thing she holds dearer than life itself. (If you already have the full Carniepunk book, you’ve already got it – this is just a re-release of my individual story.) Check out more information about… Read more

Percolation

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , | 2 Comments
This past weekend was the time of conventions apparently. Between SDCC, RWA and assorted smaller venues, pretty much everyone I know was at something.  And while I would have liked to be there, I was traveling up and back from NJ to pick up the oldest sprog from summer camp. (Lots of driving this summer, whew.) But driving leaves room for brainstorming and sometimes just finding time for that sort of thing is priceless.  (It’s easy to zone out and let the mind drift, particularly if the other passengers are sleeping or whatever.) And I’m a fan of percolation – sometimes ideas just aren’t ready yet and forcing them before their time can make for a harder road.  At any rate, I was revisiting something I’d started a while back – a concept I really liked, but wasn’t quite sure how to tie the individual bits into some sort of continuity and suddenly it… Read more

Carniepunk…and Contest!

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , | 23 Comments
It’s here! Carniepunk is officially out today – so here’s your chance to finally fine out whats going on with Melanie and how she got her magic violin! 🙂 (And read a ton of other fantastic stories by some of the best UF authors in the business, of course.) It’s been a long ride getting this book out to the readers – several years in the making, in fact – and I’m so grateful that it’s finally here and happening. That being said, I’ve got a copy in my hands to give away to some lucky duck – so if you’d like a chance to win, leave a comment down below and tell me what’s your favorite carnival/theme park ride.  (I’m partial to the Scrambler, incidentally.) Open until Wednesday at midnight, EDT. International entries are fine. 🙂 Normally, the random winner would be chosen via hedgehog, but seeing as my… Read more

Tuesday Morning Shiny

Since Carniepunk is coming out in a few months (July 23rd!), I decided to have Darchala draw me out a lovely scene from my story, A Duet with Darkness. (It’s not an exact match as far as the story goes, but it’s freaking awesome and I love it. So there.  Plus Dar got the livestream working and I was able to watch her work.) We wavered a bit on a title and finally decided on “Pride and a Fall” – though the working title was “No More Pride, Little Bird”  – honestly I couldn’t decide between the two. But we’ve got Melanie there with the red hair and the rainbow socks…and her sin-eater fallen angel paramour Nobu. *sighs* I may look at turning it into a print if there’s interest. Also, it looks like Carniepunk is going to be released in audiobook format as well. This tickles me silly, though… Read more
