WTFkery of the Mind Boggling Kind.

You know, I’m not fond of jumping on the bandwagon of internet trending. (Which I’ve mentioned before). But last night it was brought to my attention that a fellow author was “outed” by someone in her community. And frankly, I find it just bizarre beyond belief that this is getting the attention that it is. The woman is a high school English teacher by day…and an erotica novelist by night.  So what?

She’s been teaching for over 25 years, without incident. Clearly her writing has not been an issue in getting the job done. She had a pen name and a PO Box, so obviously she was keeping the two things separate (and with good reason, as we can see.)

With all the things going on in the world today that are so much more important, how can people get their self-righteous panties bunched up so easily? I can understand not liking what other people do in their free time…but that does NOT give anyone the right to publicly humiliate this woman (or anyone, for that matter). And shame on the news outlets that decided to run with this “story.”

The parents involved are bullies of the worst kind. If you have concerns about a teacher, then by all means, I see nothing wrong with talking to the school about it. Not everyone “gets” that just because an author writes about sex, it doesn’t mean he/she is actively pursuing some sort of agenda. Hell, if Judy were a writer of horror, or mystery thrillers, would anyone in this community worry that she might be a serial killer? I doubt it. But to actively “expose” the woman out of some sort of finger-pointing maliciousness is scapegoating of the worst sort.

(And incidentally, the idea that Apple’s precious little-ums might die because now he knows what his teacher does “behind the scenes” is laughable. After all, would he have known if his mother hadn’t brought it to everyone’s attention?)

Judy is breaking no laws and quite frankly, what she does in her own time is her own business. If people in this country would just stop choosing to get offended on behalf of others, I suspect we’d be in a much better place.

Rule to live by? If it’s not hurting you or anyone else, shut your pie-hole.
